Airlines seek delay in new bag-fee regulations - Yahoo! Finance: "The airline industry is asking the U.S. government for a six-month delay in new passenger protections supported by consumer groups.
Three airline trade groups asked the Transportation Department to delay the rules into next year so that airlines can train employees and update computer systems.
The Transportation Department announced the wide-ranging rules in April. Changes included an increase in compensation for being bumped off a flight, a refund of bag fees when airlines lose the bags, and a requirement that advertised fares include taxes and government fees.
The airline groups asked last week for a 180-day delay for the advertising rule, scheduled to take effect Oct. 24, and the increased bumping compensation and other requirements, which are due to start Aug. 23."
